Well if you are, welcome to the grey area mine field of the private drainage world. The General Binding Rules are a set of guidelines and requirments designed to prevent enviromental damages causesed by accidental or neglegent discharge of foul waste into the ground water supply.
The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales)(Amendment)(England) Regulations 2014 came into effect on January 2015, any dwelling with private drainage has to conform to the current rules by the year 2020. This is also with the addition that any property sold in or after 2015 also had to have measures taken to ensure the new owners were addopting a system that would pass the requirments of the 2020 deadline.
Regretably, this requirment has been missed on many an occasion by the estate angent, surveyers and lawyers leaving some new home owners in a "bind" as it were, with no resort but to pay for an upgraded system themselves.
Well we have a couple of documents below that have been made availabe on the .gov website.
We have condenced these alittle to aid you. If you answer any questions from the YES column with they answer yes, or the NO column with the answer no, then the chances are that you may well fall foul of this legistation.
